Trivia[]
- Historian Art T. Burton suggested on his 2006 biography Black Gun, Silver Star that Bass Reeves was the inspiration for the the radio serial The Lone Ranger.
- A running joke throughout the episode is Rufus calling Reeves' partner Grant Johnson "Tonto" upon learning that Reeves was the inspiration for The Lone Ranger. Johnson is deeply offended, as "tonto" is Spanish for "fool".
- When Lucy appears with a cowboy outfit on, Wyatt remarks that the outfit is "very Eastwood". This is a reference to Clint Eastwood's series of Italian "spaghetti westerns" in which he appeared as the Man With No Name.
- When the Lifeboat team with Reeves and Johnson enter a town and the townspeople give them a hostile look, Rufus references the 1974 film Blazing Saddles.
